A Tribute Above the World: Remembering the Kananaskis Country WWII AIRCREW Memorial

Introduction:
Nestled amidst the breathtaking expanse of the Canadian Rockies lies a memorial that echoes tales of courage, sacrifice, and honour. Perched atop a majestic mountain in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, this tribute stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of humanity. In this article, we delve into the heart of Kananaskis Country, unravelling the story behind the memorial and its significance in commemorating the struggles faced by those who have shaped the region's history.

Immersed in Natural Splendour:
Kananaskis Country, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and untamed wilderness, serves as an idyllic backdrop for the memorial. Located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, this pristine region encompasses over 4,200 square kilometres of protected land, offering visitors a remarkable tapestry of mountains, forests, and glacial-melt lakes. Amidst this unparalleled natural beauty, the memorial stands tall, inviting visitors to pay homage to the history it represents.

A Symbol of Remembrance:
The Kananaskis Country WWII Memorial, dedicated to preserving the memory of those who served the country and lost their lives; holds a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike. Reflective of the unity, resilience, and perseverance of communities throughout history, this memorial takes visitors on a poignant journey through time. Be it early explorers, indigenous tribes, or modern-day conservationists, the memorial stands as a timeless reminder of the deep-rooted connection of people with this land.

An Inspiring Expedition:
To reach the Kananaskis Country Memorial is a journey in itself. Visitors embark on an adventure that takes them through sweeping landscapes, hiking trails, and heart-pounding ascents. The climb to the mountaintop not only offers an opportunity to bask in panoramic views of Kananaskis Country but also serves as a metaphorical ascent, mirroring the challenges faced and conquered by those the memorial pays homage to.

Read the Plaque: On August 14, 1941 Avro Anson training aircraft from No. 3 service flying training school Calgary crashed on Mount McDougall. Please enlarge the image I have added here and you can read everything that this WWII plaque is about.

Cool Hot Rod Spotted in Okotoks

If you're a fan of unique cars and home made street rods, you might want to keep an eye out for a funky and cool looking hot rod that we spotted in Okotoks, Alberta. This Hot Rod is a showstopper, with its eye-catching unique design. Gotta say it is very unusual.

Hot rods have been a part of American car culture since the 1940s, and their popularity continues to this day. These custom-built cars are known for their high-performance engines, modified bodywork, and unique style. Hot rod enthusiasts spend hours tinkering with their cars, customizing every detail to make them stand out from the crowd. But this distinctively different auto forms its' own category, I'm sure the fellow has reason for what he has done with this car.

This car that was spotted in Okotoks is a prime example of what I think is someone just going out and having fun. We don't know about the engine or what his future plans are but hey, it's our first time seeing the one we have posted about here.

What makes this hot rod truly unique is the use of the license plates, now that's a good touch. What do you call those long chrome pipes, exhaust pipes, do you think they came from an 18 wheeler? There is presently no hood on the engine, there's an extra pipe coming out the back, you may not be able to make that out all that well in the picture here. We had to get our cameras out fast so this is the best image we got. When driving down the street, it's impossible not to take notice of this funky and cool-looking hot rod.

Whether you're a car enthusiast or just appreciate something different, the hot rod spotted in Okotoks is a must-see. So keep your eyes peeled, and you just might spot this definitely 'one-of-a-kind' hot rod cruising down the streets of Alberta.

As far as we go, this is all in fun and certainly not meant as an insult to any Hot Rod enthusiasts, just good clean fun! You can think of it this way, think of it as a story, perhaps that is all he can afford and he wanted it to be unique, a real eye catcher, I think he succeeded very well.  Btw, follow the link by clicking on the picture to see our post on TikTok. Thanks for watching!

Halloween We Call Home

As Halloween draws near, it's time to start planning spooky and fun-filled activities that you can enjoy at home with your family. There are countless ways to celebrate Halloween without leaving your home. Let's explore some ideas that’ll make your Halloween a memorable one!

First off, get dressed up in your favourite Halloween costumes, whether it's spooky, silly, or a mix of the two. Dress up as a classic witch or vampire, create your own costume with DIY materials, or opt for a fun family costume theme. Don't forget to share your amazing looks with your friends and family on social media!

Next, get your family involved in some Halloween-inspired activities. You can have a pumpkin-carving competition, decorate your house with spooky decorations, or play "mummy-wrap" using toilet paper. For a more competitive activity, try having a Halloween scavenger hunt, and search for hidden treats around your house.

Moreover, Halloween won't be complete without some spooky treats. Whip up some delicious Halloween recipes such as caramel apples, spider cupcakes, or Halloween-themed cookies. These recipes are not only fun to make but also delicious for the whole family to enjoy.

Finally, bring out the thriller movies. Grab some blankets, turn off the lights, and cuddle up on the couch for some scary movie time. Don't forget to include a classic Halloween movie like Hocus Pocus or The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Overall, Halloween at home with family can be just as fun as going out trick-or-treating, if not better! With these ideas, you can create lasting memories with your loved ones and celebrate the Halloween season.

Halloween is Around the Corner - Happy Halloween!

Halloween is one of the most exciting and spooky times of the year, where people from all over the world come together to celebrate the ghoulish holiday. It's a time for dressing up in your most creative and scary costumes, trick-or-treating, and telling terrifying stories around a bonfire.

This year, we want to wish everyone a happy Halloween filled with all the spooky and eerie thrills that you could ever imagine. Whether you're planning to attend a haunted house or a Halloween party with your friends and family, we hope that you have a frighteningly fun time.

But what exactly is the history behind Halloween, and how did it become such a popular holiday? Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which was celebrated on October 31st. The festival was a time of superstition, where people believed that the dead could return to the world of the living. To ward off any evil spirits, people would light bonfires and wear costumes to scare away the ghosts.

As time passed, Halloween evolved into a more secular holiday. Today, it's a time for fun and festivities, with people of all ages enjoying the spooktacular holiday. Whether you're carving pumpkins or watching scary movies, Halloween is a holiday that can be enjoyed by everyone.

So, let's all raise our glasses and toast to a happy Halloween. May your night be filled with candy, costumes, and the spirit of the season. Happy Halloween!

We are now into Fall and Snow is on the way!

KassDays took this picture approximately three weeks ago and you wonder 'How did time slip by so fast?' Aren't these flowers just gorgeous? There flowers were situated outside the Okotoks Museum, they have done a great job taking care of them I would have to say.

When I was younger I was not such a huge fan of flowers but I sure do seem to have an obsession with them now, all kinds of pretty flowers, I want to view them, I want to have them, I want to take pictures of them. I'm sure there are others just like me but sometimes I do tend to surprise myself with the way that I tend to change from year to year.

Looking upon that arrangement, aren't they simply the perfect mixture of colours? Orange hues with a bit of yellow and some greenery in the background, just like a work of art, any artists out there care to paint us a picture of this beautiful arrangement? Or even paint it for yourself, you just never know how far it can take you.

When I look at this I want to know, how did they smell, did they smell as beautiful as they look?

Calgary Zoo Prehistoric Dinosaur Exhibit

Imagine yourself back in a time when these Dinosaurs actually existed, just picture yourself swimming in the lake and all of a sudden you have a creature such as this looking down upon you. What would you do, would you just scream or would you quickly try to figure out how you could get out of harms way, just in case the creature were not friendly?

I think myself I would attempt to slowly back away, no sudden moves, no screaming to agitate the creature, after all it may not take kindly to someone screaming like a loon in their presence and may give you a good shaking just because you annoyed it.

You can watch the creature as it watches you back away, look for any movements if it is also moving towards you, or is it regarding you as an annoying ant that it hopes will go away, you have to play it out and hope for the best. If you can scurry away without annoying the greater beast you will be far better off than ending up a screaming loon that gets tossed across the pond for being a nuisance.

Alberta Photography in Kananaskis Country

If I'm not mistaken this photo is of Barrier Lake which is out in Kananaskis Country. Barrier Lake is a man made reservoir on the north end of Kananaskis Country here in Alberta Canada.

This body of water is Mountain water which means it is very cold, if you fall in, it will affect you immediately. So be careful around these mountain fed bodies of water. Beautiful to admire but give them the respect that they deserve.

Can you imagine having a home where you had such a view? I could sit there all day and look out at it, or does it wear off after awhile? Not sure, when we travel a bit and stay in hotels that do have a good view, we do spend quite a bit of time admiring the view.

I recommend to myself to get out in nature, find the peace and quiet so that I can bring myself back to the person that I wish to be. Get rid of the stress and take some deep breaths, enjoy the view.

Barrier Lake in Kananaskis Country, what do you think?

I think Kananaskis country is so beautiful and whenever I look at that beauty it relaxes me. From what I read up on Barrier Lake it is fed by a glacier so it is very cold, so not likely very comfortable to be in for extended periods of time. Barrier Lake is at the north end of Kananaskis Country in Alberta Canada. Highway 40 is the road we travelled to get there.

Elbow Falls Kananaskis Country Alberta Canada

A photo just to entice you to the videos we will have coming up, this is a picture that is at Elbow Falls, doesn't it look like to you that water is coming right out of the rocks there, someone turned on the tap and it is pouring out? If only life and water were that simple.

I have decided that I want more peace and beauty in my life and I am working very hard on achieving that. Going out to the Natural Parks and other special sites is all a part of that, it is discovery time.

In the near future we were going to try a promo of our YouTube Channel to try and get more viewers and subscribers, so of course we are going to have a give away as well. But we need some help, what does anyone think would be a good type of contest to help decide who the winners would be?

Fireworks on Canada Day 2023 in Okotoks Alberta

Here is a sneak peak of what we saw on Canada Day for Fireworks here in Okotoks Alberta. This is the first year we actually went out to take them in, that last few years we just saw a glimpse of them from home and that is as far as it went. It wasn't too bad, the fireworks in Okotoks are rather short though, have to admit that.

We just sat in our vehicle up until the time the fireworks were nearly ready to get going, we just went by how many people were starting to congregate and adjusted ourselves accordingly. We were even thinking this time, we took a couple of folding lawn chairs so we could sit comfortably, now that's a good plan isn't it?

We have a video coming out later today, September 1st, 2023 at approximately 4pm, you can watch them at this link after they log live; Okotoks Fireworks with KassDays

Sincerely hope you enjoy them, they are only slightly over 5 minutes long. Thank you for viewing.

Elbow Falls Southern Alberta Kananaskis Country

Elbow Falls, we took a drive out there and took in the view, got our needed exercise and more. I love the absolute beauty of Nature, I love to see her and listen to her, never ceases to amaze me. I had a bit of an issue on this venture, we were set off to do some hiking and I was walking up an incline and, for the first time in a long time, I got a serious bout of Vertigo, I got so dizzy it was scary. Needless to say I had to turn around and go back down the stretch I had already went up, I was not stable enough to proceed, it was alarming to say the least. I'm hoping in all my heart that it was a one off, fingers crossed. Check out the link for out TikTok to see where it took place.

Okotoks Show & Shine in Okotoks Alberta

This was the 2023 Okotoks Show and Shine that took place in Okotoks Alberta, did you make it out to the show? There was a large turnout for the Car Show, even-though the show was in a different location, I hope it is put back downtown next year personally, but we'll see how that goes I guess.

Do you attend car shows? If so, do you like the classic cars or the more modern cars, what is your preference? I like all kinds of cars, both new and old, there are just certain cars that appeal to different viewers. I think, as far as I can see, that I seem to like the more sleek and flashy kind of car, that is what I am guessing at this point, what do you think?

Summer is coming to an end, that makes me sad!

Here we are, it is nearly the end of August 2023 and summer is quickly drawing to a close, that is sad for me, not looking forward to months of snow and ice which seems to go on forever. We are showing you in this video how our plants are at this point in time, we did get quite a few tomatoes this year and the majority of our flowers did do very well and some are still thriving.

We did plant a couple of different zucchini plants and we actually got a few decent zucchini out of them, cooked them up, they were great have to say. Please do us a favour if you have some time, watch a few of our full length videos from beginning to end, we truly need to build up some watch hours on reg format videos. At some point in the near future we are going to have a promo, yes that means some giveaways for our viewers. We have ordered some items with the KassDays logo on them, this will be one of the prizes and we are thinking on what else we can do. We are going to make a YouTube video on what ideas you may have.

Turner Valley Gas Plant Museum Guided Tour

We made a trip out to Turner Valley, they have an old gas plant that was shut down back quite a few years ago, more detail will be in the long video we will have coming out in the next couple of weeks. The guided tour was very informative, actually enjoyed it very much. There is quite a history to all that took place in Turner Valley when this Gas Plant was first started, there were many changes that took place over the years after the initial start of the Gas Plant. Stay tuned to our YouTube channel KassDays, subscribe and click the notification bell so don't miss when new videos come out.

We will have much more detail coming out on this guided tour in the next couple of weeks or so, this short was  just a test. We will fix the volume in the full length video as well.

The Nostalgic Hotel Room in the Etzikom Museum

What do you think of this old hotel room that has been recreated to show what things looked like in the distant past? I'm not sure it looks all that comfortable to me, perhaps it's the lady in the corner that makes me a bit uneasy.

Are you old enough to remember that dreadful wallpaper? I have purchased homes that had that stuff, I worked at removing it all. This is not to say that I detest wallpaper, but I do want perhaps a more modern looking wallpaper than what was presently on the wall.

Let's think of this as well, what about that bulky suitcase, imagine lugging that knee cracker around, have to say things are designed a bit more user friendly these days. Then again, who knows what the future holds, perhaps there will be micro bags where we can shrink down our things into minuscule packages? Perhaps a bit wrinkly when all is said and done?

You just never know what the future holds do you?

Spruce Meadows Show Jumping

Aren't the horses beautiful to watch? I could sit for hours and just watch, take photos and videos of course too, but sometimes just to get lost in watching them move. I have always loved horses and being around them, I feel at one with them. Yes I did have a horse or two when I was younger and still to this day I hope I can perhaps have a couple to just hang out with, they make awesome buddies.

Please watch the video and if you like, please subscribe to our YouTube Channel @KassDays, Thank you any and all for watching what we have produced thus far.

Drumheller - We are Going Back For You!

We have been to Drumheller in the past, but it was before we had a YouTube channel, so we are going back to do it again. We will also go for a glorious hike in the Horseshoe Canyon, same as we did last time and we plan on sharing these adventures with you.

It was a very hot day the last time we went out to Drumheller, perhaps it will be a bit cooler this time. We plan on going once school is back in, so we can try to avoid some of the crowds and perhaps beat the heat as well.

Walking down into the Horseshoe Canyon was very interesting for me, had an historic feel to me, it was my feeling that there were many things that took place in that canyon years ago. Shall we say that the spirits of the canyon were attempting to tell me a story?

Hey, if you are not yet subscribed to our YouTube channel please do so, we would really like to have some great people we can form a community with. In case you didn't know, we are @KassDays (with and 's') on YouTube.

Let's check out the Dinosaurs and the Horseshoe Canyon together.
