Paws and Adventure: Discovering Seavey's Ididaride Sled Dog Tours

Paws and Adventure: Discovering Seavey's IdidaRide Sled Dog Tours in Seward, Alaska

Nestled just outside Seward, Alaska, Seavey's IdidaRide Sled Dog Tours offers an unforgettable glimpse into the world of champion sled dogs and the iconic Iditarod race.

Run by the legendary Seavey family—pioneers who settled in the area in 1963 and have claimed eight Iditarod victories, including Mitch Seavey's record-breaking run—this family-operated business has been sharing their passion for mushing since 1993.

In the snow-free summer months, like our visit in September 2024, the tours swap traditional sleds for wheeled carts (think rugged golf carts pulled by eager pups), allowing visitors to experience the thrill of a dog-powered ride through lush rainforest trails.

It's not just about the ride—it's a hands-on learning adventure. Guides share fascinating stories about the dogs' training, breeding, and daily lives, while demonstrating gear and even letting you cuddle adorable husky puppies. The attached photos capture the energetic team of Alaskan huskies, harnessed and ready to run, their expressive faces full of excitement amid the muddy paths and vibrant foliage. Kass found it a rewarding outing, blending fun with education on these resilient athletes who conquer Alaska's wilds.

If you're in Seward, this tour is a must for animal lovers and adventure seekers. Stay tuned for the full-length video recap coming soon to the KassDays YouTube channel, packed with more tails and trails!
