Discovering Custom Gems at Diamond Valley Show and Shine

Discovering Custom Gems at the Diamond Valley Show & Shine: An Okotoks Blogger's Rainy Day Adventure

As an Okotoks blogger sharing slices of Calgary area daily life, I'm always on the lookout for those unexpected moments that make getting outside worthwhile. Yesterday, July 27, 2025, I braved the drizzly weather to check out the 3rd Annual Diamond Valley Show & Shine in Black Diamond, Alberta, a short drive from Okotoks and a perfect example of local exploring at its finest.

This family-friendly event, running from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, transforms residential streets into a vibrant display of classic and custom vehicles, complete with music, food, and a sense of community that shines through even on a cloudy day.

Free for spectators like me, it's an accessible way to dive into the automotive passion that dots the Calgary area landscape.

In my helenshowto blog, which has evolved from strict how-tos to celebrating life experiences and outings, I love highlighting these explorations. Getting outside, rain or shine, opens doors to treasures like the standout vehicle that caught my eye: a sleek black custom van with a fiery red skull and flames airbrushed on its side. This beast looks straight out of the 1970s vanning era, likely based on a Dodge B-series model, customized with chrome wheels, a lowered stance, and that edgy, demonic paint job that screams personality.

Parked amid the lineup of classics, it evoked thoughts of road trips, counterculture vibes, and the creativity that car enthusiasts pour into their rides. The skull design, with its horns and flames licking across the body, adds a touch of mystery and rock 'n' roll flair, perfect for sparking conversations at shows like this.

Events such as the Diamond Valley Show & Shine remind me why exploring the Calgary area is so rewarding. From Okotoks to nearby towns like Black Diamond, these gatherings showcase not just vehicles, but the stories and dedication behind them. Despite the overcast skies sprinkling a bit of rain, the atmosphere was electric, with attendees huddled under umbrellas, admiring everything from muscle cars to quirky customs.

It's a prime opportunity for Calgary area daily life enthusiasts to get outside, connect with locals, and discover hidden gems that make our region unique.

If you're in the Okotoks or Calgary area, I highly recommend marking your calendar for next year's show, or seeking out similar events. Whether you're into cars or just love the thrill of exploring, getting outside and immersing yourself in these experiences enriches everyday life. Who knows what custom wonder you'll stumble upon next?
