How to Get to Waterton National Park from Calgary, Alberta

Nestled in the southwestern corner of Alberta, Canada, Waterton Lakes National Park is a picturesque destination renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and abundant wildlife. If you're in Calgary and looking to explore this stunning park, you're in luck! Getting to Waterton National Park from Calgary is a relatively straightforward and enjoyable journey, offering you a chance to immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of the Canadian Rockies.

By Car:
The most convenient and flexible way to reach Waterton National Park is by car. The drive from Calgary to Waterton is approximately 265 kilometres (165 miles), and it typically takes around 3 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. To start your journey, head south on Highway 2, also known as the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, which connects Calgary to the United States border. After about 200 kilometres (124 miles), take the exit to Highway 3, which will lead you straight to Waterton National Park.We will explain the route we took in the video above.

The drive itself is a scenic delight, with rolling prairies giving way to majestic mountain vistas as you approach the park. Along the way, you may encounter wildlife like deer, elk, or even black bears, so it's important to drive cautiously and be mindful of the local wildlife.
